Plymouth & Devon Schools Sailing Association launch their new boat, “Clare Milne”.
Plymouth and Devon Schools’ Sailing Association have this month launched their new sailing boat, a Drascombe Longboat built in Devon.
Their choice is an identical yacht to their original vessel, so popular with the visiting sailors, including many with disabilities.
The charity made the fabulous gesture of naming their new addition “Clare Milne”, in kind recognition of the support from The Clare Milne Trust which enabled their purchase. Margaret Rogers, trustee of The Clare Milne Trust was invited to conduct the formalities for the official launch on Plymouth’s Commercial Wharf.
Margaret and fellow trustee Kevin Underwood were then invited our in a rib to watch Clare Milne on the water, under sail. She looked fabulous, with great manoeuvrability and turn of speed, even in the light winds.
Principal and Senior Instructor Mike Duffleld thanked the trustees of The Clare Milne Trust on behalf of his dedicated and skilled crew of volunteers, who work tirelessly to enable people of all ages, many with disabilities to join them on the water for a fabulous experience.
The charity provides sailing and powerboat sessions for the local community with their fleet of vessels – now two Drascombe Longboats, a 17ft Highfield RIB, a Plymouth Pilot boat, two Wayfarers and five Topaz dinghies.
