Exciting outdoors therapy develops self-esteem, life skills, confidence, friendships and much, much more.
We are always delighted to receive applications from charities and not-for-profit organisations that we have never worked with before. Each new enquiry brings fresh perspectives, innovative ideas and a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing people living with disabilities in our communities. These first-time applicants often introduce us to emerging initiatives or smaller grassroots groups whose dedication might otherwise go unseen, and it is a privilege to learn about the impact they are making.
Recently we were are delighted to support the transformative work for people living with disabilities of North Devon charity Adventure Therapy harnessing the power of nature for healing and personal growth, providing life-changing outdoor experiences for people facing profound challenges, extending hope where it’s needed most.
They offer a diverse array of outdoor experiences, including climbing, kayaking, hiking, and bushcraft, making the outdoors accessible, so important for those living with the daily challenge of living with disabilities for children (aged 8+), young people and adults.
Making Outdoor Therapy Accessible
By breaking down barriers they bring outdoor therapy to all corners of Devon, working with schools, local support groups, and mental health services, they expand their reach and ensure programmes remain inclusive and tailored to each participant’s needs. Their enterprising approach includes the opening of a charity shop in Ilfracombe plus expanding volunteer programme creating opportunities to get involved, raise awareness, and support their fundraising activities.
Advancing Research and Impact
Not only committed to immediate transformation, Adventure Therapy is also advancing research into how outdoor experiences benefit those with conditions like Acquired Brain Injury, epilepsy, ADHD, and autism. A valuable partnership with Exeter University shapes evidence-led programmes—a foundation for continual improvement and broader impact.
The Clare Milne Trust is honoured to partner with such an inspiring charity and looks forward to the future impact their incredible work will have across Devon. Learn more about volunteering, fundraising, or supporting Adventure Therapy by visiting their website.
