A Celebration of Inclusivity, Innovation, and Community Support
We were delighted to have supported the development of accessible facilities at Constantine Bowling Club, Constantine nr Falmouth, Cornwall, alongside additional grant funding from Sport England and the clubs own fundraising.
In April, the club hosted a highly successful Open Day, welcoming visitors of all abilities for a memorable and inclusive occasion. The event was a powerful demonstration of how thoughtful planning of facilities and the right equipment can bring people together and open up new opportunities for participation.
Among those attending was Tony, a wheelchair user, who was encouraged to try bowls using a Royce Rollator. For the first time, he was able to take part in the game, seated comfortably on the rollator’s padded seat. He spent over an hour playing and later described the experience as a “wonderful afternoon.”
The club also welcomed Jamie, Charlotte, and Helen, three adults with learning disabilities, who not only enjoyed a game on the green but also the social activities in the clubhouse. Jamie’s natural ability was particularly striking. later explained by his family, who shared that he is a medal-winning member of the Glasgow Special Olympics team.
Visitors with a range of disabilities praised the accessible ramps, which made navigating the site with walking aids easy and comfortable. The new facilities and equipment were thoroughly tested throughout the day and exceeded expectations. The accessible toilet was especially valued, with users highlighting the reassurance provided by the red pull-cord system, which connects directly to the clubhouse and includes a microphone for immediate assistance.
The Open Day showcased the club’s thoughtful investment in accessibility and reinforced its commitment to providing a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all.
