In 2022 The Clare Milne Trust supported Meadowside Charity in Newton Abbot, Devon. Meadowside Charity supports 11 disabled adults, some with complex issues, by providing them with residential care.

Established for over 30 years Meadowside Charity faced difficult financial challenges.

The charity trustees were looking to find a way to increase income and they hoped that a dilapidated hall in the grounds might provide an opportunity. With no vehicular access to the property, options were limited, until the local Rotary Club, supported by local businesses and volunteers, fund-raised to create the all-important access.

This move was invaluable and it was decided to renovate the hall for use as a daycare and respite centre. With funds almost non-existent, Meadowside trustee Martin Smith then set about applying for grants.

Trustee Martin Smith explained “In these challenging times there were many rejections. The Clare Milne Trust offered us a lifeline, with a substantial grant which kick-started the project. Without the grant from The Clare Milne Trust, I don’t think the Meadowside Coronation Hall project could have got off the ground.” Martin continued “The additional revenue generated will enable us to continue to offer a home for life for 11 very vulnerable adults, in addition to expanding our support for our beneficiaries and their families. The Coronation Hall allows us to offer respite day care sessions providing a safe place for their loved ones, giving many hard-pressed carers some invaluable personal time.”

“The Clare Milne Trust application process was very smooth, and for someone new to applying for grants the support was brilliant.”
