Local charities celebrate Clare’s Day on Wednesday 17th July

Clare Milne, the granddaughter of A.A Milne

A day to remember the life and legacy of Clare Milne.

The Clare Milne Trust and CEDA, the charity based at The Clare Milne Centre in Exeter, wanted to find a way to remember Clare Milne and to acknowledge her ongoing legacy which is so valuable to our region.

Wednesday 17th July 2024 is Clare’s Day, an online event to capture special memories of Clare and share the significant impact of her amazing and valuable legacy.

The Clare Milne Trust was established in 1999 in honour of Clare Milne, the granddaughter of A.A. Milne. Despite living with cerebral palsy, Clare was known for her vivacious spirit and love of socialising, leaving an indelible mark on her family, friends, and community.

In 1998, Clare received a significant sum of money from the sale of the copyright royalties of her grandfather’s books. This led to the purchase of a home for Clare in East Devon, with the remaining funds dedicated to creating a charity to support people with disabilities. The Clare Milne Trust awarded its first grant in 2002, embodying Clare’s passion for making a difference.

Sadly, Clare passed away in 2012. Her mother, Lesley Milne, expressed her heartfelt wish: “My dream is to know that my girl will be remembered for something that brings happiness where it is most needed.” Today, the trustees of The Clare Milne Trust are committed to upholding Lesley’s vision, ensuring that Clare’s legacy continues to inspire by providing vital support and fostering inclusivity within the community.

The Clare Milne Trust provides grants to charities and not for profit organisations who support individuals with disabilities, striving to make a positive impact in their lives, reflecting Clare’s own enthusiasm for life and her commitment to helping others.
