The Clare Milne Trust is delighted to have supported The Wave Project in their  inspirational work to improve access to blue spaces, and make the sport of surfing more inclusive for people with disabilities. The Wave Project highlighted the benefits of the support received from The Clare Milne Trust. “By having extra beach wheelchairs, it meant that we could promote and create more of a community feel when we take groups of disabled people surfing, whatever the level of support needed, rather than only having one person at a time in the sea.”

The benefit clearly flows beyond the activity itself, bringing a real sense of achievement and positivity, whilst enjoying so much fun; a real boost to self-confidence. In Croyde N Devon alone this season The Wave Project has supported 156 different people, from 5 to 74, to enjoy this inspirational and stimulating experience, delivering over 200 sessions. Helping those living with disabilities is at the heart of The Clare Milne Trust’s charitable objectives, with The Wave Project supporting  those with a wide range of disabilities, including those with  Traumatic Acquired Brain Injuries, Cerebral Palsy, Huntington’s Disease, Scoliosis, Epilepsy, ASD, Limb Difference, Stroke Survivors.

It is great to see the surfers’ huge smiles and read the positive feedback, which included insights into the significant, relentless daily challenges by so many living with disabilities. They face the challenge, assess risks and achieve so much.
