The impact of a Clare Milne Trust grant and the difference it can make is captured by our grantees reporting back on the funded project. This valuable insight helps our trustees develop our work, understand and learn from our beneficiaries and helps inform future decisions.
Lifeworks supports families, children, young people and adults with learning disabilities across Devon. So many people have benefited from their work over the past 30 years, the core service not having changed, now supporting 200 people a year, creating opportunities so that the people we support can reach their full potential and are engaged with and valued by their communities. Their results are inspirational.
As passionate Disability Champions, with their amazing specialist expertise and dedications they care for, promote and support giving a voice for those people who they support. They listen, then tailor the service to need, ensuring people are seen as the individuals they are, important and valued within the community, contributing through socially valued roles. Personal development brings benefits in so many ways, and forever, opening further opportunities, skills and vision.
Our grant was focused on 16 young people between 19 and 24 years diagnosed with mental disabilities, many of whom from low-income families who would not have been able to participate without grant funding. Supported by an appropriate team these young people visited Calvert Trust Lake District, to enjoy the fabulous specialist amenities and residential accommodation.
Facing the trip for many was extremely challenging, taking them our of their daily routing and to visit new places, meeting new people and cope with change. For everyone it was a unique experience, creating fabulous memories and strong friendships, everyone taking away different benefits and experiences; success and enjoyment for all.
The Clare Milne Trust were delighted to support Lifeworks in their important work in providing life-changing experiences for young people.
